Character Name: Keisuke Sakurai Age: 22 Date of Birth: 30th of August, 1986 Former Hogwarts House: n/a
Background: Keisuke is a Japanese pureblood wizard who has lived most of his life among other purebloods only. It is not that he dislikes those who are not pureblood wizards. Kei-kun (as his friends call him) was simply chosen to be brought up by his parents, Shosuke and Masami Sakurai (who were both very influential heads of two very important departments in the Japanese Ministry of Magic), in a very exclusively pureblood community. He has an older brother named Hisato (24), who is currently working with dragons in China. Hisato is the rebellious kind. When Hisato was 21, he dropped his job in the ministry for a job in taming and capturing dragons. Keisuke's parents were furious, but they could do nothing to stop Hisato. Keisuke also has a younger sister named Megumi, who is 15 and is still attending Shiroyama Mahoutsukai No Gakuen, the same school from where Hisato and Keisuke graduated.
Shiroyama Mahoutsukai No Gakuen (White Mountain Wizard Academy) was Keisuke's home for eight years since the year he turned eleven. It is a school exclusive to purebloods. Shiroyama is one of the two wizarding schools in all of the Japanese wizarding world. The other wizarding school, Sorashita Sennin No Gakuen, is similar to Hogwarts, accepting all sorts of wizards. There were times during Keisuke's stay at Shiroyama that he wished he were in Sorashita instead because of the very tough training at his school. The only thing that kept him around Shiroyama was his best friend, Hiroshige Fujigaya. Unfortunately, during their last year at Shiroyama, Hiroshige was killed during a Dark Arts class (yes, they took up Dark Arts training at the darned school) by a mindless - but surprisingly skillful - student with the Killing Curse. Since then, Keisuke has been rather distant from his old friends and even his family.
Right after graduating from Shiroyama Mahoutsukai No Gakuen, he was offered a job as a Mahou Kouken (similar to the Aurors of the British Ministry of Magic) for the Japanese Ministry of Magic. Keisuke turned down the job because it reminded him too much of his best friend. He has therefore decided to leave Japan and pursue his dreams in England.
A single telegram from home signaled an unexpected yet significant twist in Keisuke's life. While he was in Great Britain, living his life as normally as he can, there was pure chaos in the Japanese Wizarding World. More than half of the Japanese Ministry of Magic workers had rebelled against the Ministry. Many Mahou Kouken turned into Kurayami no Sennin (Dark Wizard) and formed their own 'army'. Oddly enough, Keisuke wasn't surprised when he learned that his father was one of those Wizards. Without telling anyone, Keisuke went back to his family in Japan.
Keisuke's father duly explained their cause. The Japanese Minister of Magic implemented the abolishment of the Dark Arts classes in Shiroyama Mahoutsukai and the total ban of using Dark Magic. Apparently, the Japanese Minister had meetings with Western Ministers of Magic who persuaded him to pass those decisions. This didn't make Keisuke happy, for he firmly believed that the Dark Arts are the most essential aspect of Magic. He still had a sister in Mahoutsukai, and if she was to finish school without proper Dark Arts training, it just didn't sound right to him. And the outright ban of the Dark Arts was simply too much. Because of that, it didn't take very long for Keisuke to join the Kurayami no Sennin.
After a month of plotting, the Ministry of Magic declared a state of emergency against the Kurayami no Sennin. Knowing that the Dark Wizards had more power on their side, the Ministry took desperate measures. They fought fire with fire. One by one, Dark Wizards began to disappear. The Ministry Wizards were using the exact same type of Magic as the one they had been fighting against. They used the Unforgivables on everyone they suspected to be a Dark Wizard or connected with the Dark Wizards. Dementors were even sent to Wizarding villages in broad daylight to hunt for Dark Wizards.
By the time the Dark Wizards decided to fight back, more than fifty of their number had been killed. It was an overwhelming number, and they never expected the Ministry to attack them in that manner (Who would? It was purely ironic.). The Dark Wizards began to take Ministry Wizards as captives (the kind of move that would have been expected from the Ministry). As the number of captives grew, the Dark Wizards asked for two things in exchange for the their freedom --- the re-instatement of Dark Arts classes and the lifting of the Dark Arts ban. The Ministry wouldn't budge, and they continued to massacre Dark Wizards.
War soon broke out. Keisuke and his father were caught in the middle of it. Keisuke kept calling for his brother to help them, but Hisato had different beliefs from his family. This deeply angered Keisuke, and even more so when his father was killed at a duel with a Ministry Wizard. Although Keisuke wanted to keep fighting against the Ministry, his family wanted him to go back to Great Britain for his safety. Keisuke didn't want to leave. He stayed in the war and killed several Ministry Wizards. This caused him to become one of the most hunted down Kurayami no Sennin. His mother begged for him to leave the country as soon as he could. Eventually, he took heed.
Keisuke didn't go back to Great Britain right away. He stayed in East Europe and met with European Dark Wizards. A month later, he finally decided to return to Great Britain.
Personality: Keisuke is a very skilled and intelligent wizard. His specialties lie in Transfiguration and the Dark Arts, but he rarely uses his skills with the latter. Keisuke enjoys writing. He has been keeping a journal since he was nine years old. He also has a heart for music and the arts. More often than not, Keisuke is seen walking by himself or sitting alone on a bench with quill and parchment in hand. His favorite colours are white and black, which explains his carefully picked though outdated wardrobe. Back in his school days, he had very few friends. It was partly because of a superiority complex that he has not completely overcome yet but is very willing to do so. Despite his anti-social personality, Keisuke had a rather good-natured aura around which his teachers and classmates felt comfortable.
Because of the war, Keisuke has changed a great deal. He is still the same skillful and intelligent Keisuke Sakurai. However, his mindset is different, and he has become less associative with others. Kei no longer possesses a happy disposition. He is still capable of hiding his true feelings when he has to, but somehow he can't fake being happy. As much as his troubles weigh him down, Keisuke is constantly trying to move on by living life as normally as possible. He is aware that things can never go back to normal anymore (whatever normal is, because at this point, Kei is no longer sure), but he never loses the will to stand up for what he believes in.
Keisuke's specialties lie in Transfiguration and the Dark Arts. In recent times, he has become more and more interested in Potions. It has been nearly two years since he left school, but Keisuke still has the drive to learn more things. He has developed a constant craving for books, and is now more likely to be seen reading books.
Physical Appearance: Keisuke Sakurai stands 5’11” tall and would be considered skinny by Westerners. His skin tone is somewhat pale. He has jet-black hair and brown eyes. For years now, he has kept his hair kind of long and wavy, and he is particularly fond of how it looks. His eyes are unusually round for a Japanese. In his opinion, he has one of the goofiest smiles he has ever seen, and he prefers not to smile because of that. He has broad shoulders, large hands and feet, and long legs. The clothes he wears are often old-fashioned and a little too big for him, but the uniformity of his color choices makes it clear that he intends his clothes to look that way. Keisuke is not very conscious with his looks, but is said to be somewhat good-looking by some people.
Sample Role-play: The solitary man sitting on the iron bench was beginning to feel restless. This was supposed to be his break from work, but the air outside was only contributing to his stress. He pulled out a pack of Bulgarian Wizard cigarettes from within his heavy, black cloak. He lit one stick with his wand and dragged on it for a few seconds. Leaning back on the bench, he allowed the heat from the cigarette to seep through his chest before puffing out a cloud of crimson smoke. The way the Bulgarians made them, the cigarettes did not only give warmth but also a temporary feeling of lightness. For the first time that day, the man experienced relief and peace of mind.
Half-way through his cigarette, he noticed a woman coming out of a shop meters away from where he sat. Sure, there had been a few other people coming out of that shop, but this one particular woman caught his attention. She was rather small and had a delicate form. Her appearance intrigued him. Out of the corner of his eye, he watched as the woman continued to walk. He raised an eyebrow when she stopped in front of his shop.
He took one last drag from the cigarette and threw it away. He got up from the bench and approached the woman. "Hello, miss," he greeted with a smirk. He turned his gaze towards his shop and then back to the woman. "This place will be open in a few days. You can come back then to take a look." It was shameless advertising, but there seemed to be more to this woman than just being a potential customer.
Anything else? none!
