Character Name:Erin Antoinette Van Delaire Age:Seventeen Date of Birth:June 1st Year at Hogwarts:Seventh
Background: Erin Antoinette Van Delaire, the first and only child of Minoiette Biellé and Jonathan Van Delaire. Minoiette was the elegant, sophisticated daughter of two prominent Death Eaters. She took an interest in the dark arts herself, followed her parents in them being Death Eaters, and made an attempt to model herself around the perfect wizarding wife. Jonathan was a powerful man, skilled, although he could be very irrational and was famed for his hot-headedness. He was a good match for his wife in her appearance, although he dominated her greatly. Minoiette kept a perfect home, it was decorated impeccably and always immaculate. With the news of the pair's child on the way, Minoiette took a less active roll in the workings of The Death Eaters, but still supported the side completely. Erin was an anticipated child, her mother could barely contain herself in the weeks following Erin's birth, and showed her off at every opportunity. Jonathan was rather less excited, more hoping for a male, but as she began to grow, he warmed to her. Erin grew to be an equal combination of her parents. She beheld her mother's striking beauty and elegant grace, along with her father's strong mind and skill, although, unlike him, she never spoke out of turn. She was educated by private tutors in her early age, a quiet girl, she listened to her tutors, studied hard and retained all of the knowledge she could in one sitting. She appreciated the knowledge her teachers had, they had experience and skill, something which, at a young age, Erin knew she would gain only by listening to them, and taking on board everything they would tell her. The youngster impressed all of her teachers, some more than others, however. When it was designated as a task, Erin loved to debate. She had an inquisitive mind, and found arguing her point got questions she needed answering resolved more effectively, they just seemed to flow from her mouth once she got into the swing of things, maybe it was just the heat of the debate. At eleven, Miss Van Delaire received a grand looking letter, sealed by a thick, wax stamp. Following an impeccable upbringing, Erin contained her excitement, choosing to open the envelope slowly and neatly, rather than tearing it open. She set down it's wrappings, and unfolded it gently, proceeding to read out the words contained to her attentive parents. "Miss Erin Antoinette Van Delaire...". It was that day she received her invitation to attend Hogwarts, quite possibly the wizarding world's most prestigious magical institute. The young witch prepared herself accordingly, making trips to Diagon Alley with her mother to purchase all of the necessities, robes, wand, books and the like. Her first day was a wonderful experience for Erin, she made conversation with a multitude of people, setting herself aside as an attentive, quiet and elegant young lady, among some of the more raucous, unruly students milling around the grand castle. As her magical education continued, Erin established herself among her peers and professors, achieving the best grades possible of her in most of her classes, and observing other students with great caution, desperate not to be lead astray by some do-gooder on a whim. Unsurprisingly, she developed an attraction to men with a darker personality, men of wit and cunning. Although she had the best of intentions, she would occasionally slip up in class, her mind otherwise preoccupied by various boys, all of a similar nature. She would often travel home over longer holidays to visit her parents, and when she was away, her mother took it upon herself to send her care packages, usually consisting of the latest trends in the wizarding world, wrapped beautifully, by the shop she purchased them from, no doubt. Reaching her seventh year, Erin was growing more and more into a beautiful young witch. There seemed to have been some sort of transformation over the summer, she had grown, just slightly, into her unusual looks, and now resembled a woman, rather than an adolescent, waiting to blossom. This renewed her confidence, in all aspects of her life, and she got back into her studies and social life with vigor.
Personality: First and foremost, Erin has an outer shell, which she maintains, in some sense, at all times. Brought up in a very traditional environment, she is composed and ladylike. She makes a conscious effort not to interrupt people while they are speaking, never to use slang terminology or to hold herself in an ungainly manner. In other words, Erin behaves like a perfect young lady. She is a model of how young women were expected to behave until expectations lowered. The more prominent and traditional families believe this drop in standards was due to the muggles, but should the conversation arise, Erin will simply smile and reply "Each family has their own ideals.". Condition to behave like a lady, Erin is multi-faceted, but her first concern is not to tarnish her families reputation, and to uphold the class and standards associated with the Van Delaire name. Although Erin will never directly come out and insult someone, her comments, when she sees fit, are often rather insulting, in a very 'innocent' way, which is why it is incredibly hard to retell an account, and make her look bad. It is most often not only what she says, but the way she says it, meaning her remarks are never pointed, however it is always obvious if she is intending to irk someone. She chooses her words carefully, using a wide range of vocabulary and terminology. The seventeen year old is witty, although she only uses her wit when appropriate. Her attentiveness in class has a lot to do with her insults being so penetrating, things she says will often stay at the back of someones mind for days, as they are coherent, and said with such ease. Of course, Miss Van Delaire is not heartless, far from it. She can be incredibly loving, however, it is not her fashion to lavish attention and care on someone who is cold to her. She puts in what she gets out, and if someone shows disinterest in her, or disdain when she is attempting to be kind, she feels slightly hurt, and will withdraw from them. The seventh year is scared to give away too much of herself, for fear that people will hurt her. If someone makes an effort to make her feel special, she does respond positively, although it takes her a while to feel comfortable and secure, once she opens up slightly, she becomes a lot more warm, although she will never open up fully to anyone. She views relationships with great caution, although boys interest her greatly, she doesn't trust them completely, and is often unsure as to how to respond to certain advances, however, she is an accomplished flirt, even if when it gets deeper, she is unsure. In accordance with her birth date, Erin is a Gemini, one of the twelve star signs set about by ancient people of magic. The sign promotes a split personality of sorts, which is apparent in the female. Her wit and sarcastic nature are suppressed and contained by her elegant exterior. She has an excellent sense of humour, although she only builds upon it when the company requires, her mother always told her to be cautious with humour, after all, it wasn't listed as one of the top five qualities sought after in a potential wife. Everything Erin was taught was to do with pleasing males, acting to fit them. Her mothers marriage with a complete patriarchal institution, which had a split effect on Erin. Sometimes, she craves a strong minded, cunning man to give her guidance, at others, she will long to speak her mind and break away from the traditional woman's role. Her mind is never in one place, her decisions and thoughts will change in accordance to her mood and what surrounds her, and she is constantly torn. Buried underneath every aspect of her, possibly to deep for even Erin herself to know, is a dark spirit. When she is speaking and behaving as she usually does, it isn't very apparent, of course, she does come across as a follower, but simply because her parents are, not by her own means. However, given the right circumstances or provocation, she has something inside her that leans her, very decidedly, to the Dark Lord's side. Darkness attracts her, in most senses of the word. She finds it intriguing, interesting, and is drawn to people she deems as dark. The power and cunning excite her, her essence is dark, with the potential to turn her into something a lot more sinister, growing as she does, emerging ever so slightly more.
Physical Appearance: Erin isn't a tall girl, standing at no more than 5'2". Her figure is in proportion, resembling the nipped-in pin ups that muggles in time gone by favoured so much. Her skin is hostile, choosing not to colour in the sun, but taking on a cream hue at best. She was never one to be bronzed, but it didn't matter to her. It suited her better to be pale, and her mother, who, to Erin, was the most beautiful woman around, never once had a tan, so being pale was just fine with her. Every aspect of her face, from the structure to the features, is very elfin. The shape is heart, giving way to a small set of petal like lips, and large, denim blue eyes. The pools of blue are wide, framed by long lashes, giving her a doe eyed look. Although she is not even half a percent elfin, she has a very similar look in height and face, although by pure coincidence. The girl's hair is very dark, black really, with a high shine against the dark colour. It naturally falls in soft curls, to her upper back, although when straight, it reaches a great deal farther. Her clothing style is elegant and quirky, a mixture of the latest trends in wizarding fashion, and random pieces she picks up at boutiques in places like Hogsmeade.
